If you haven't already heard, within less than 48 hours, the House of Representatives is expected to vote on S. 47.
If passed, it would go to the President to be signed into law. (Hallelujah!)
But according to International Justice Mission, "before that vote, the House will consider a Substitute Amendment to S. 47—one that does not include the bipartisan TVPRA. If the Substitute fails to pass, then the House will move to a final vote on S. 47—the preferred version because it includes the TVPRA."
In other words:
We want the Senate to pass S.47—The Violence Against Women Act—because that bill includes the TVPRA. We want the Senate to vote NO to the Substitute Amendment because it does not include the Trafficing Victims Protection Reauthorization Act..
I just called my Congressman. Will you join me? It took less than 2 minutes. (And if you're nervous to talk to a person, no worries. You can even leave a voicemail.)
Go HERE to find your local representative and help over 250 million men, women, and children who are enslaved. Fight for justice by making one phone call in the next 24 hours.
Here is the script from IJM that I followed (I threw in a bunch of pauses and "umms," so rest assured, you don't have to be eloquent.):
Hi, I'm [NAME] and I’m calling to ask Representative [NAME] to vote YES on S. 47, the Senate-passed Violence Against Women Act because that bill includes the TVPRA. I urge [HIM/HER] to vote NO on the Substitute Amendment to S. 47 that will be considered first, as this bill does not include the TVPRA. Will you pass my message on to the Congress[man/woman]? Thank you!”
We serve a God who sets captives free, comforts those who mourn, and bestows crowns of beauty instead of ashes. Let's join with Him in setting others free today.
"The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is one me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives, and release from darkness the prisoners...to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve...to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning and a garment of praise instead of despair."--Isaiah 61

I called Aubrey! Even having what to say right in front of me I was still umming and pausing and not knowing what to say next!!! =)
I called, but I'm your husband, so I don't think I can win anything!
Jessica- I'm so proud of you!!! I totally felt the same way!
I called. Thank you, Aubs! Appreciate bringing it to our attention and the script, which made it easy to do. Since I am your Aunt, I will keep my name out of the drawing.
Called, Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
I called! I felt so akward about calling, but it was really easy and I'm glad I did. It surprised me how intimidated I felt about making a simple phone call, but human trafficking is something that I feel strongly about, so I'm grateful for you to making it so easy and encouraging Christians to call. :)
I called! Thanks Aubrey.
