Day 25: The goal of overcoming shame isn’t to arrive at some fairy-tale destination, where you’ve learned your lesson and now you live in a guarded castle and never have to deal with the dragon of shame again. The goal is to continue overcoming shame as long as you walk on God’s green earth.

Don’t let that statement defeat you—shame does not have to be your identity. It will  shrink from a huge fire-breathing serpent into a small annoying bug. But just as a bee can be dead and still have a sting, shame has been destroyed in Christ, but the remains can be irritating. True victory over shame is in the willingness to continue fighting against it.

Consider: If Jesus were standing before you today, what would you love to hear him say about your shame?

Prayer: Dear Jesus, when I bury myself in shame, please help me to listen to your powerful voice. Remind me to return to you again and again. Amen.
