Wow! We’ve already made it 7 days!
Please know that I’m praying for you all month as you join me in this overcoming shame challenge for January. If you’ve missed the first week of devotions, no worries, you can find them on the blog or jump in starting today!
Day 7: Who Are You, Really? If you have a difficult time answering this question, allow me to assist: You were not created in the image on your screen. You were created as Imago Dei, the image of God. You were designed by God to bear his likeness on earth. Unlike other ancient kings and rulers who erected images of themselves in their territories to represent their sovereign presence, God chose to stamp his image on human flesh and blood, sinews and heart.
You—with your specific body type, skin color, facial features, personality, gifts, and passions—are a unique and living reflection of God, designed to carry his image of his love to the world. But there even is more: you were made in his image—yes—but also, more powerfully still, you were made to be his. In other words, you belong to God, not to shame.
Consider: How might your life be different if you had a stronger sense of your great worth and value in God’s eyes?
Prayer: God, you are worthy and able. Please give me the courage to begin living in the light of your freedom. I need you to empower me with your strength to fight back against shame. Amen.
