This week’s
Shameless Series: Warped Womahood
Verse: “Sing, O barren woman, you who never bore a child, burst into song, shout for joy… Do not be afraid; you will not suffer shame. Do not fear disgrace, you will not be humiliated. You will forget the shame of your youth and remember no more the reproach of your widowhood. For your Maker is your husband- the Lord Almighty is his name- the Holy One of Israelis your Redeemer; he is called the God of all the earth.”—Isaiah 54: 1, 4-5
Shameless Story: from Amanda, on facing depression while on the mission field:
“I continue to be amazed at the reality and nature of effects depression can have on people. I was so severely depressed, and I’m SO thankful God helped (is helping) me face and deal with it. It makes me sad to look back and think I was just trying so hard to be strong, buck up, and not be a whiner, live up to my image of a “Real Missionary”, etc. and all the while those ideas were really weakness masquerading as strength in my mind! I’m just thankful God “snapped” me into awareness of the severity of the problem so that I could stop hurting myself and those around me. It makes me really, really sad that depression is so “confusing” and stigmatized in the church. I hope I can help change that!”
Quote:  “At 20, I would have been like: ‘Don’t they like me? Was it my hair?’ At 41, I think the things that define me…are a lot more than those kinds of petty things.”–Oscar nominee, Melissa McCarthy
Wise Woman: Sarah Young, author of Jesus Calling. Sarah spent a year journaling her thoughts from scripture as if Jesus was speaking to her. This daily devotional is a great and easy little read. Personally, I’ve felt pretty empty lately trying to juggle three boys. These readings have been soul-filling and restful. TMI: I keep my copy in my bathroom, so I can read it first thing in the morning. I have it sitting there with my journal, a pen, and my bible. And—there’s even an app for that!
Fight against Injustice: Did you know that over 27 million people are enslaved right now. That is more than any other time in history. Over 80 percent of human trafficking victims are women and children. Join the International Justice Mission in petitioning President Obama to end slavery now. Sign your name here and stand up for slavery.
Laugh: Cakewrecks.com, when professional cakes go horribly wrong. I think the Buzz Lightyear Cake is pretty hilarious.
May you experience the shameless love of Jesus this weekend.
