This week’s

Shameless Moment: Confidence vs. Shamelessness

Verse: In honor of Anna O’Connor’s favorite verse,  “Truly, my soul finds rest in God.”– Psalm 62:1

Quote:  “True Emancipation begins neither at the polls nor in courts. It begins in a woman’s soul.”– Emma Goldman.

Shameless Woman: Today is Fanny Crosby’s birthday. When she was an infant, she got sick and a quack doctor prescribed mustard for her eyes–she went blind. Despite her experience, Crosbywrote thousands of hymns. No one knows exactly how many– the hymnals didn’t want to print too many songs by one person, so she used about 100 different pseudonyms (talk about shameless, I love it!) Some think she wrote between 3000 and 8000!

Her best-known hymn “Blessed Assurance” begins:
Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.
(Plus, she went to Wheaton College, my alma-mater — so she has to be cool.)

Good News for Justice:

Redlight District
Today we are celebrating freedom in India: A young teenager named Rikka* has been rescued from an abusive brothel in a red-light district in Kolkata. It was our third attempt to free her.
We first met Rikka outside on a busy street. Inside the brothel, she was sold to customers and abused in the foul-smelling, dimly lit rooms.
We knew we had to get her out.
Twice we tried to rescue her – both attempts failed. We revised our tactics, determined to overcome the obstacles. We refused to give up.
This week we found her. Our team in Kolkata immediately mobilized the police to bring her out of the darkness. Now Rikka is safe in an aftercare home, where she can start to heal.
Your support means we can show up for more girls waiting for rescue. We won’t give up. And we are thankful you stand with us.
Gratefully,

May you live shamelessly this weekend.
And by the way, if you are reading this blog, I want you to know that I have been praying for you this morning– that you would experience God’s shameless love and freedom,
and that He would meet you where you need Him most.
